Highlights from Gateway Music Outreach’s 7th Annual Summer Camp & Juneteenth performance!
Gateway Music Outreach (GMO) had a wonderful summer filled with community engagement and their 7th annual summer camp! GMO was invited by Temple Emmanuel to participate in their Juneteenth Shabbat Shalom service. Here is a short clip of the performance:
Following that performance, GMO concluded the final session of Jazz Camp with a family tour of the National Blues Museum and the presentation of their students’ culminating project on Saturday, June 25th. This year, it was all about jazz—one of the oldest African American musical art forms. James McKay Jr., our Co-Founder and Music Director, wanted to provide their classical string students an opportunity to learn music from American composers. Mckay believes that jazz provides kids with an outlet for creativity and improvisation. McKay says, “Practicing and performing jazz helps student musicians to develop insight and self-exploration while exposing them to one of the most fulfilling musical experiences.” Check it out!
