From Teacher to Mentor: Creating a Lasting Legacy One Student at a Time. Here we see James McKay, co-founder and music director, engaging with three remarkable students at various stages of their musical journeys. To his right is Madisyn, a dedicated freshman cellist and music major at the University of Missouri St. Louis; to his left is a talented 12th-grade violinist Harrison, poised for college auditions in violin performance; and beside him is a passionate sophomore violinist, Essence, currently an intern with Gateway Music Outreach, who is pursuing a degree in speech pathology at St. Louis University. James McKay is piloting an innovative initiative called “GMO Beyond” through Gateway Music Outreach. Today’s lesson transcended traditional music education, introducing fundamental principles of entrepreneurship and the importance of valuing one’s artistry. This program is dedicated to empowering the next generation of musicians with essential skills for both on-stage and off-stage success. Together, we’re fostering a vibrant community of aspiring artists!
