UMSL Music Presents Sundiata: The King of Mali

UMSL Music presents Afriky Lolo’s Sundiata: The King of Mali, a powerful retelling of a legendary West African epic rooted in centuries of oral tradition.

This dynamic production follows Sundiata Keita’s remarkable journey from a disabled child forced into exile to the visionary leader who founded the Mali Empire. Guided by prophecy, Sundiata rises to unite kingdoms and defeat a tyrant king.

Through electrifying dance, live drumming, and storytelling inspired by the griot tradition, Afriky Lolo brings history and myth to life in celebration of its 20th annual dance production.

Performances will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center.
